43-years-old Chennai-born tech executive, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai is on a two-day visit of India. On 17th October he addressed students of Delhi’s Shri Ram Commerce University, where he shared many information of his life, about his childhood and majorly about google’s upcoming projects in India.
At the event spot he was expected to come at 1:00 pm to answer arriving questions in students mind. According to report all the questions were selected from the first. When he arrive, as always he was looking very simple and handsome. In the event more than 2000 people were present including students, college students of Shri Ram University, as well as students from another colleges also. After completion of his meeting in Delhi university he was planned to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In his childhood, he was very powerful in remembering phone numbers while after coming smartphone in the picture contact book had diminished this power from every people.
In younger age he use to see dreams to become national cricket player such as Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar. He also said that, “I did dream of being a cricketer like so many Indians. I used to be a huge fan of Sunil Gavaskar when he was playing and later, Sachin Tendulkar when he played. I always had a dream.” He added that, “I always thought Test cricket was amazing. I had the time to watch it too, but T20 is not something I grew up with, so I don’t enjoy it as much as I do Test cricket or one-day matches.”
Mr. Sundar Pichai’s first phone (Motorola Starc) he purchased in 1994-1995, and first smartphone he purchased in 2004. Right now he is having more than 25-30 smartphones in his house.
Mr. Sundar Pichai is very much interested in technology from his younger age only, and he had always saw dreams to be a developer. He also love to learn programming languages. If he did not got position of the CEO of Google than too he would be in any technological or development field.
In his 12th standard, he did not get excellent marks in exams. And according to Sundar Pichai, good student or knowledgeable student doesn’t mean to have 98% in exams. It means to have proper knowledge of what is moving around you. He/She should be creative rather having high scores in academics.
Google’s Upcoming Projects in India
India has many developers as a students or as a graduates. India has also creative minds with tremendous interest in development compare to other countries. The reason behind great change in India is only google. Google has made all the resources available on the internet.
In order to develop more and more people, Sundar Pichai announced that, Google is making partnership with 30 universities to train 2 million android developers and such a way Google can support students or entrepreneurs. Google is also planning to give $20,000 in credits to today’s best and brightest 1000 Indian startups to run their business on Google Cloud Platform. Google is also making available Chromebit to India priced at Rs. 7,999. Google has also developed Google Books to bring all the books in the world available online.
According to Sundar Pichai, Indian Government can ameliorate Indian education system by encouraging students in the creativity and pulling them to become more creative rather only focus on academic knowledge. Education should be creative, students should be learning by how things are done practically rather theoretically. Learning should be done through projects and experiments rather only making calculations on the paper. Google is also in education fields where you can learn practically, you can see how things are done through videos rather reading from the books. In studio, opening earlier this month, Google is teaching Indian content creators how to make even better videos at the YouTube Space Mumbai.
India could have very huge company same as Google in future, if Indians start thinking on what the problems people are facing on the daily basis. According to Mr. Sundar Pichai, India would have definitely Global company in which people would come from other countries for service. Sundar Pichai said that,
“It is worthwhile trying to take risks, it may not work out the first time around, but it will work out in the long run.”
“We do work hard to bring our services to India. We’re working hard to bring Project Loon. Increasingly we also do thing first in India like YouTube Offline which started in India and is now in 77 countries. It is a goal to build things here. We do things we can build here at scale which will apply to the world,” said Sundar Pichai.
In India Google is exploring public Wi-Fi project as a part of digital India initiative. Google would provide free wi-fi in 500 railway stations of India where more than 10 million people are travelling everyday. It would give access to 1 million people who are not aware with internet and it would also bring traffic and driving awareness in India. Mumbai central would be first station to come online in Google’s this project, and by end of 2016 many more stations would become operational. Google may face challenge of giving continuously high speed of Wi-Fi. It is very big project and it would take time to explore it successfully but Google is very excited to develop this project. The company would apply this project in India via project Balloon as the Indian government said that, “the Project Loon might not be feasible for India because it interferes with the services offered by telecom operators.”
Talking about upcoming Android operating system Mr. Sundar Pichai said in joking that, “May be for the next version Android N, we will have online poll and if all Indian users vote, we are sure to have Android named after an Indian dessert.”
Globally women accounts are very less on the internet, ratio is almost of 1:3. Google is running Pilot Project to introduce the internet to rural women. Mr. Sundar Pichai said that, “To aware other women, we can go to different villages and to make understand other women with smartphones, internet, its usage, and its benefits. Some women are thinking that internet is not for them. So Google also want to make all the women updated with the internet. Till next year, google will go to almost 3,00,000 villages (half villages of india) to bring awareness regarding internet.” Google is doing this project on small scale with partnership of the Tata Trusts and Indian Government.
Google is also planning to make its engineering offices and campuses in Hyderabad, where Google will recruit as well as train Indians. Google also recruits non-technical person if he/she has ability to build any product, scale of taking it in market, and having scale of selling that product in sudden situation. He also added that,
“We try and figure out what is next. It is also one of the reasons why we are so much interested in India because it will define future. That is why we are investing so much here.”
Mr. Sundar Pichai also shared his vision for Google to next 30 years that, Google would continuously develop the products and systems which would solve your problems. At the end by addressing the student community, he said “Follow your dreams and you can do whatever you want”. To wrap up the event Harsha Bhogle took a 360 degree selfie with Sundar Pichai.
