Miss Universe 2015 contest was held on 20th December 2015 at the AXIS in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. Total 80 contestants competed in the 2015 event where Pia Wurtzbach from the Philippines won the crown. Pia Wurtzbach is the first Miss Universe winner from the Philippines in more than 40 years. Miss Philippines and Miss Colombia were two finalists of the contest.
The 2015 Miss Universe competition became center stage for the world to experience excitement. Nearly 600 million people were watching the contest from 190 countries and territories. At the time of announcement of winner – Miss Universe of 2015 – host Steve Harvey read the wrong name. Instead of announcing Miss Philippines he announced The 21-year-old beauty queen Miss Colombia as a Miss Universe 2015, but after realizing his mistake, Miss Colombia had the crown removed from her head and it was given to the actual winner of the contest, Miss Philippines.
In the manner of apologize, host Steve Harvey said that, “I made a terrible mistake tonight in announcing the wrong winner and runner-up for the Miss Universe pageant. I know how much pride many countries, fans and most importantly, the contestants take in preparing for this night. I hope that you can forgive me. All contestants were amazing but I want to specifically apologize to Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines again and wholeheartedly. You both represented well for your countries, families and yourselves.”
Further, he made another big mistake in an apology tweet to both contestants. He wrote “Columbia” instead of “Colombia” and “Philippians” instead of “Miss Philippines” names on Twitter. Then, that tweet was quickly removed from the twitter.
It’s been 15 years since India won the title of Miss Universe, in the year 2000 Lara Dutta won that. This year, actress Urvashi Rautela gave the hopes of the same, but she got eliminated before the final 15.
Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach was born in Stuttgart, Baden-Wurttemberg, on Sept. 24, 1989. Her father is German and her mother is Filipino. She had started her acting career at the age of 4 years, which is truly amazing. Before winning Miss Universe 2015, Pia Wurtzbach was a professional model, actress, host and TV personality.
Designer Albert Andrada from Filipino, made the royal blue gown which Miss Philippines wore in the competition. Designer Albert Andrada said that, “The front of the gown has sapphire colored crystals mixed with the beadwork to represent the beautiful sands of our (Philippines) beaches.” He added that, “Made of silk gazaar, the gown has a hem of draped multiple folds at the back, which are like fins of the different beautiful fishes found in Philippine waters. The color blue represents the tranquility of the deep blue Philippine seas as well as a tribute to Pia’s queenly beauty. Blue was also her choice of color to wear to Miss Universe.”
Miss Colombia posted on her Instagram page that, “After the storm comes the calm. I want to thank each and everyone of you who have sent messages of support and strength. Every one of you has become an incredible human being in my book and I am the most fortunate and thankful for having the support not only from one country but from the whole entire world. Your destiny is written for you. And my destiny was this. I was able to bring happiness to my country after becoming Miss Universe for only a couple of minutes… Today because of that COLOMBIA and the LATIN COMMUNITY are being talked about in every corner of the world. I also want to congratulate the Philippines for their new Miss Universe. The happiness that you must be feeling must be incredible. Life continues and in the future we will find out why things happen the way they happen. Thank you all for your LOVE SUPPORT and KINDNESS.”
When Miss Philippines was asked that why she wanted to be Miss Universe, she replied,
“I will use my voice to influence the youth and I would raise awareness to certain causes like HIV awareness, that is timely and relevant to my country. I want to show the world, the universe rather, that I am confidently beautiful with a heart.”
German actress, model and beauty pageant titleholder, Sarah-Lorraine Riek told in criticism manner that, “I was very happy for Colombia actually she really deserved it and I’m not really happy with the result and neither are the other girls.” And then Miss Germany apologized after criticising the winner and said after one day with showing no hard feelings towards the Miss Philippines that, “I also want to congratulate the Philippines for their new Miss Universe,” she wrote. “The happiness that you must be feeling must be incredible.”
Well, I love the way Miss Colombia handled herself so gracefully on the stage. She was still feeling proud of herself regardless she was in tear. Everyone were talking with Miss Colombia at the backstage and many were giving her hug. Well, we are congratulating our Miss Universe 2015 – Miss Pia Wurtzbach for her great victory.
