Yahoo has announced its new and latest technology, which will alert you if your account is in State-Sponsored hacker’s hand. User would be warned through a notification.
Basically, State-Sponsored attack is malicious activity, in which third parties tries to log into your accounts in unauthorized manner. In 2012, Google had unveiled this technology to alert users in case of State-Sponsored attack. Google announced this technology in very few months after same type of attack china faced. Recently Facebook has unveiled same technology. Twitter is also using this technology and even they had warned some users to be alert from state-sponsored attack earlier this week.
Day by day internet usage is increasing, and with the increased internet work possibilities of attacks are also increased. If you see warning message on your yahoo account, it does not mean that your account has been hijacked. It just means may be you are a target, and by getting such message or notification you should take immediate steps to secure your account and your personal data.
Yahoo’s chief information security officer, Bob Lord said that, “We’ll provide these specific notifications so that our users can take appropriate measures to protect their accounts and devices in light of these sophisticated attacks.” He added that, “In order to prevent the actors from learning our detection methods, we do not share any details publicly about these attacks. However, rest assured we only send these notifications of suspected attacks by state-sponsored actors when we have a high degree of confidence.”
Bob Lord also described in his blog that, Yahoo is also providing list of options in case of attack to secure account. If user is getting notification alert from Yahoo about an attack then the user would turn into verification process. This process is of two steps where user has to set password. If user set the password then Yahoo will ask many more things such as mobile number, alternate recovery email address etc. Yahoo also recommends you to perform security audit as soon as you can. It also requests you to check mail forwarding and reply-to options is not turned on to an unknown address.
Bob Lord also recommend users to secure themselves from outside of your Yahoo account by installing anti-virus software in the computer or laptop to secure your device, follow all the guidelines provided by the social-networks which you are using, and do not open any links about which you are not sure because by just clicking this mails your account goes under the hacker’s hand.
So now onwards, Yahoo users can also sleep without any tension, just follow all the processes and instructions to make your account strong and secure.
